Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
EDP (Energias de Portugal), Portuguese electric utilities company, has announced an investment of €1 billion in industrial projects focused on green hydrogen, renewables and energy storage to convert the thermal plants of Puente Nuevo (Malaga) and Los Barrios (Cadiz). The company hopes to increase its use of renewable energy to 100%, achieve decarbonisation, and reconvert the thermal power plants in process of closure with new projects.
This will eventually create 300 direct jobs and about a further 2,200 indirect jobs. In the meantime, this investment will enable a creation of 4,500 temporary jobs during the construction phase.
In 2012, EDP created about 335 jobs in Portugal.
