Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
As announced on 25 June 2021, the German automotive manufacturer Daimler will be creating 1,000 new jobs at its plant in Sindelfingen. Daimler plans to develop its own operating system to connect its cars. Therefore, Daimler is hiring 3,000 programmers, IT specialists and driving assistance experts worldwide. Of those, 1,000 will be working at the Sindelfingen plant which will be the new central campus for the development of the operating system MB.OS. Management and works’ council agreed to a new bargaining agreement which will give Daimler the opportunity to provide more attractive jobs offers. Recruiting has already started and Daimler hopes to fill all vacancies as soon as possible.
