Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
German producer of automotive lights Hella announced relocation of 150 jobs from its Bratislava plant producing interior automotive lights to its plant in Trencin. The majority of the jobs includes positions in production, with some administration and service jobs to be relocated as well. This step is related to the plan to concentrate the activities of the company in Trencin region and to increase the capacity of the plant in Trencin from the beginning of 2022.
The company currently has four production plants in Slovakia. It produces interior automotive lights in Bratislava and Trencin, rear lights in Banovce nad Bebravou, headlights in Kocovce and lighting for car bodies in Trencin. As a result of the decision to unify the activities in Slovakia, the company will operate under a new name - Hella Slovakia Lighting - with headquarters in Kocovce. Hella believes that this step will help to offer better services to clients and it will help to prepare itself for digitalisation within the Industry 4.0. The firm has nearly 4,000 staff in Slovakia.
A previous restructuring case with job reduction of 250 positions was announced in June 2020 (see Hella Slovakia2020-SK).
