Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
XEOS, a joint venture created by Lufthansa and General Electric, announced that it will cut about 220 jobs throughout a collective dismissal programme at its production facility in Środa Śląska. Under the restructuring programme, the company is to close down the site and cut all positions. XEOS has started negotiations with employees’ representatives. The programme is related to the COVID-19 pandemic which has affected the aviation industry; the company reported a drop in demand for its services.
The factory has been operating since 2019; it specialises in servicing and maintenance of GE’s engines. For previous restructuring event see XEOS2019-PL (300 jobs created).
