Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Jeld-Wen, a company manufacturing wooden doors and related products, plans to increase its production volume by a third in 2021. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the company has managed to strengthen their market position and find new clients. To meet the demand, they have decided to rearrange their work processes and thus as of June 2021, a 12-hour work schedule will be introduced in the factory. This requires the recruitment of additional 160 employees as soon as possible, which is unusual and positive news for the region, where 2,000 persons are currently registered as unemployed.
