Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Polish commercial bank Bank Pocztowy has announced that it will cut up to 235 jobs throughout a collective dismissal programme. The programme will be implemented between May and 30 September 2021; it will affect both the bank’s headquarters and distribution network. The conditions of the programme will be negotiated with the local trade unions in the near future. The programme is related to the deterioration of financial results and potential future losses.
Bank Pocztowy has been operating since 1990. Bank Pocztowy offers financial services for individual customers as well as micro and small enterprises using its network and facilities of the national postal operator Poczta Polska. Currently, the bank employs 1,335 staff across Poland.

After the negotiations with the local trade unions, the company has announced that the collective dismissal programme will affect up to 204 jobs by the end of September 2021. Redundant workers will receive a severance pay.
