Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The domestic electronic equipment company Elica announced a large restructuring plant for its plants in the Italian Marche region. The plan provides for 409 redundancies out of 560 employees in the area, the closure of the plant in Cerreto D'Esi and the relocation of 70% of the production carried out in the Italian sites to Poland (Jelcz-Laskovice plant).
The trade unions deemed the decision unacceptable and have called workers to protest and demonstrate in front of the factories. Trade unions are also asking for the intervention of the MInistry of Economic Development and to set up a 'crisis table' (committee to deal with the issue).
