Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The chemical company Eni and the trade unions have signed an agreement foreseeing an internal restructuring plan with 900 voluntary retirements. Eleigible workers are those who will accrue, in the period of validity of the agreement, the requirement to access the pension within the following 5 years.
There will also be 500 new hirings aimed at generational turnover and the introduction of new skills and new competences.
The 500 new positions should be filkled by the end of 2021 and will be supported by an expansion contract (introduced in 2019 by the Growth decree and extended with the 2021 Budget Law) which the parties have signed at the Ministry of Labour and Social Policies.
The company is also planning to launch a training and upskilling program of 1 million hours/year involving 20,000 workers.
