Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The management of the perfumery chain Douglas Italia presented a restructuring plan entailing the closure of 128 salespoints employing 457 workers, the majority of them are women.
The list of 128 stores that will be closed was announced to the trade unions and the company already started to cancel a good number of shops' rental contracts.
The choice, connected to the reduction in business volumes connected to Covid-19 restrictions, is contested by the sectoral trade unions. A meeting between the parties has been scheduled at the Ministry of Economic development for 6 April 2021.
In Italy, the company has an historical presence and counts over 500 stores.
