Description

The US tech company IBM cuts 560 jobs in a reorganisation of its division in the Netherlands.

Reason behind the reorganisation appears to be the high wage level in the Netherlands and the possibility to provide IT services from anyplace in the world, at lower costs.

IBM aims to cut at least 220 jobs through a voluntary redundancy scheme and the remaining 340 job cuts through forced dismissals. Union representatives criticize the company's social plan and the specific clause that strips employees of additional benefits if they don't accept dismissal within 14 days.

IBM is a tech company with 345,000 employees in over 175 countries. Currently, IBM has 2,200 employees in the Netherlands.
