Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Dutch shipbuilding and offshore company Damen Shipyards has announced 114 job cuts in the Netherlands.
The ongoing recession in the offshore oil and gas market and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic are the reasons why a reorganization has become necessary for Damen Shipyards. The reorganisation involves the two repair yards in the Rotterdam area, Damen Verolme Rotterdam and Damen Shiprepair Rotterdam.
Damen is an international shipyard group with 13,000 employees worldwide. The reorganization follows 173 redundancies in August 2020 and 115 redundancies in July 2020. Finally, further job cuts involved the Romanian establishments in September 2020.
