Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Polish producer of wiring harnesses Zakład Elektrotechniki Motoryzacyjnej (ZEM) has announced that it will cut all 460 jobs through a collective dismissal programme at its production facility in Ełk by July 2021. The restructuring programme is related to the court’s decision to liquidate the company. ZEM has been in difficulties for years; its situation has been worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic which affected the automotive industry.
ZEM was founded as a state-owned company in 1945. Currently, the company is owned by Alemeda Investments LTD. The company specialises in the production of wiring harnesses, battery cables and ignition harnesses for the automotive industry.
