Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Amazon, the US-based tech and online retail company, has announced the creation of 200 new permanent jobs. Amazon will open its first 'delivery station' near Schiphol Airport.
The 8,500 square meters delivery station will just be used to sort parcel and will not serve as a warehouse for Amazon's products. So far, deliveries in the Netherlands were sorted at delivery stations in France and Germany, but with online sales increasing rapidly since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the distribution network needs to be expanded. The delivery station will mainly be used to sort deliveries in the Amsterdam area, as orders have increased most in this region. However, analysts predict that this may just be the first step in the Netherlands and delivery stations in other regions may follow soon.
