Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Slovak Tatry Mountain Resort (TMR) company, operator of ski resorts and other sport facilities, will cut 260 jobs in Slovakia. The reason is the significant loss in revenues caused by the long-term closure of the facilities due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 180 employees will be directly dismissed. The remaining 80 redundant employees have ending temporary or trial contracts or will retire. According to the president of the TMR Board of Directors, wage subsidies provided by the state assisted in maintenance of employment in TMR. However, it was not possible to retain full employment in the situation of the long-term closure of TMR premises. Further job cuts were expected in TMR facilities in Austria, Czechia and Poland.
