Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The airline Corsair has announced a plan to eliminate 112 positions (61 ground staff and 65 cabin crew) and modify 19 of the 339 permanent contracts for ground staff. It could lead to 131 dismissals (over 10% of the total workforce). The project has been presented to the staff representative bodies and the reason is the ned to reduce costs bduring the COVID-19 pandemic. The management specifies that it also plans to create 14 new positions.
This announcement comes after the end of the collective voluntary dismissal plan that was proposed to the flight crew at the end of 2020 which was also implemented to reduce costs during the COVID-19 pandemic. This plan, which ended on 30 December 2020, will lead to the departure of 65 cabin crew.
Three previous restructuring were recorded in 2006 with 211 job cuts, in 2003 with 300 job cuts and 2002 with 270 job cuts.
