The management of the Banque de France announced to the unions, at a meeting, the abolition of 13 of its 37 regional branches by the second half of 2022. Together with the one already being closed, the total will be increased to 14. In total, 135 jobs could thus be lost.
These branches are in charge of recycling and supplying banks and shops in France with banknotes. With the development of alternative means of payment to cash, such as cards, their usefulness is being questioned by the institution's management, which has already closed dozens of them. Twenty years ago, there were around 200.
