Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Public mail company Slovenska Posta (SP) plans reorganisation in 2021 which will affect around 1,500 employees, out of which 756 will be made redundant. Dismissals will take place from 1 March to 31 May 2021. Following the negotiations with trade unions, the figure on job reduction has been reduced from the initially planned more than 900 redundancies. Redundant employees will receive a redundancy payment, resulting in the total company's costs of around €3.5 million. The rest of affected staff will be offered other positions within the company. The restructuring is a long-term decision of the management and is not attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is aimed at improving company's efficiency and quality of services and its modernisation, including digitalisation of services, reorganisation of postal deliveries, modernisation of logistics and increase in capacity in parcel delivery segment.
Currently, the company has 12,894 employees.
