Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The American group Stryker, which manufactures medical equipment, has announced 158 job cus at the Tornier company, which is specialised in the manufacture of shoulder prostheses, located at Montbonnot-Saint-Martin (Isère). This reorganisation follows the takeover of Tornier by Strker in November 2020. The logistics department, for example, is directly impacted and could close down permanently. A long period of negotiations will now begin with the management of Stryker. Even if reemployment proposals could be proposed near Lyon or Bordeaux, on different activities, the unions expect forced dismissals. Around 100 employees were on strike in front of the site on 13 January to protest against the redundancy plan.
