Description
Polish national airline Polskie Linie Lotnicze LOT (PLL LOT) has announced that it will cut up to 300 jobs throughout a collective dismissal programme in the first half of 2021. The source reports the airline has already received public aid of €650 million. Trade unions claim the idea of redundancies should be abandoned and some resources from the public aid should be used to improve the working conditions of full-time employees. PLL LOT has been hit by the COVID-19 pandemic; the total number of LOT's passengers has fallen to around 2 million travellers in 2020, and the company is trying to maintain liquidity.
Currently, PLL LOT employs about 1,600 employees with employment contracts, including 700 ground staff, 500 cabin crew and 270 pilots. Almost the same number of self-employed cooperate with the airline.
