Description
Openreach, the British telecommunications company, has announced that it will create 2,552 new engineering jobs in its service and network build divisions across the UK by the end of 2021.
The roles are being created as part of a project that aims to build a ‘full-fibre’ internet network in the UK, including towns and villages in remote areas, with an investment of GBP 12 billion (€13.2 billion as at 30 December 2020). The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the project, as fast internet connection would enable more people to work from home.
Openreach is a division of British Telecom which controls most of the UK’s broadband network and employs around 35,000 people. In addition to the jobs at Openreach, further 2,800 roles will be created at its subcontractors, such as Instalcom, John Henry Group, Kelly Group, Kier, KN, MJ Quinn, Morrison Telecom Services, NMCN and Telent.
