Description
The aeronautical subcontractor SIMRA, which manufactures aircraft floors and cockpit windscreens for Airbus, announced the closure of its Albert (Somme) site with the loss of 124 jobs. The company's difficulties are due to the aviation crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In mid-November, around 100 employees marched in the streets of the town centre of Albert in response to the call of the CGT, to protest against the closure of their factory and the cut of the 124 remaining jobs by the end of February 2021 (compared with a workforce of around 170 in the spring of 2020).
After several days of strike action, the unions obtained an improvement in the social plan:
- A quadrupling of the redundancy pay, with a minimum of €1,700 per year of seniority against an average of €425 initially proposed by the management;
- A doubling of the reemployment leave, from 4 to 8 months minimum.
The lifting of the strike welcomes these advancements, but negotiations will continue until the end of January to improve the dismissals's conditions.
