Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The UK-based retail chain Poundland announced that it will create 280 jobs across the UK and Ireland by Christmas 2020. In the UK, the company is to open 7 new stores creating about 160 jobs, while 120 positions will be created in Ireland. Another 45 branches will be opened over the next 12 months as part of a GBP 15 million (€16.5 million as at 26 November 2020) investment.
Poundland has been operating since 1990 and currently, the chain has a network of 800 stores in the UK and over 60 in Ireland, where the company operates under the brand name 'Dealz'. Poundland sells a wide range of products, including food and drink, health and beauty, gardening and DIY products, offering many items for GBP 1.
