Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Bombardier Transport France, which is being acquired by Alstom, has announced a €25 million investment plan to modernise its Crespin (Nord) plant which will create 400 jobs within a year. Bombardier wants to increase its capacities by creating new production lines, but also to develop digital technology and to install robots to reduce the arduousness of the work. The factory's workforce should increase from 1,600 employees on permanent contracts to 2,000 in 2021. The plant was closed for two months due to COVID-19, 160 new employees have already been hired this autumn, including around 100 workers and around 60 managers, technicians and supervisors. The factory reported a turnover of €823 million in 2019. Its order book is full.
