Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 10 November 2020, US-based meat processor Tyson Foods announced its global business expansion strategy which will create about 1,850 jobs worldwide. The company is to build new production facilities in China and Thailand, as well as expand its facility in the Netherlands.
The new factory in Thailand is expected to add 1,000 jobs, the plant in China is expected to create more than 700 jobs, and the expansion of the factory in the Netherlands is to bring about 150 new jobs.
The CEO of the company said that global population and income growth will continue to drive an increased need for protein. The company intends to expand its export capabilities on a global scale and become the leader in protein. The source reports recent expansions in Tyson Food’s international facilities added fully cooked poultry capacity of more than 100,000 tonnes to meet demand in emerging markets. In addition, the company has invested in e-commerce platforms in Malaysia and Australia to meet consumer demand in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
