Description
Tobacco manufacturing company British American Tobacco (BAT) has announced the closure of its Groningen plant; as a result, all 185 employees will lose their jobs. The activities of the Dutch plant will be moved to locations with lower production costs, namely Hungary and Germany; whereas the establishment will be closed by the third quarter of 2022. Employee' representatives stated that they will continue to negotiate, adding that they remain hopeful the plant will stay open.
The Niemeyer tobacco company was established in 1819 and was part of British American Tobacco since 1999.
