Description
Finnish ferry operator Tallink Silja has announced it will dismiss 100 employees working in ground operations. The majority of the dismissals will take place by the end of 2020.
The restructuring programme is a result of co-operation negotiations began in October 2020 and just ended. According to the company, restructuring is needed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which radically decreased touristic flows. The CEO of the company stated that the market is not likely to get back to pre-COVID-19 level, therefore, in addition to permanent dismissals, the company plans to continue with temporary layoffs for the remaining 270 employees in the Finnish ground operations.
Tallink Silja operates in the Baltic Sea region and employs in total 1,500 people (500 on land and 1,000 at the sea).
