Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Leeds-Bradford Airport, the international airport in Yorkshire, has announced plans to cut 107 jobs in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and the travel restrictions. Redundancy consultations with the affected staff have already started.
A spokesperson for the airport said the decision to cut jobs was a response to the 'short-term constraints' faced by the company and the aviation industry as a whole.
A representative of the GMB trade union called on the government to provide sector-specific financial support to save jobs in aviation.
