Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Kuehne+Nagel has announced it will be looking for 200 additional employees for its distribution facility in Tessenderlo. The main motive behind the expansion is the increased demand for logistical services due to the current growth of e-commerce indirectly resulting from the COVID-crisis. The share of Belgians making an online purchase at least once a month rose from 48% in 2019 to 56% in 2020. In a later phase the company plans to hire an additional 400 employees. The low local unemployment rate, as well as the presence of other logistics operations in the area, will make it challenging for the firm to recruit the new employees. Large recruitment events have bee organised.
