Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
DPD Ireland is to create 700 new jobs before Christmas. DPD is Ireland’s parcel delivery and courier company and has seen a huge upsurge in demand as a result of the increase in online purchases due to COVID-19.
Approximately 150 of the 700 positions will be based in the company's headquarters in Athlone and the remaining 550 jobs for drivers and operational personnel will be based at its 36 regional depots nationwide.
Earlier in the year, at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, DPD was delivering an average of 730,000 deliveries per week, double the usual numbers. This included an 800% increase in deliveries of electrical goods, 300% increase in pet food deliveries and 225% increase in delivery of sports equipment.
The 700 new positions are in addition to 100 new driver roles announced in April 2020.
