Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The catering giant Elior has announced a plan to cut 1,888 jobs in its corporate catering business. This activity is being adversely affected by the development of teleworking in large companies, in which Elior provides catering services for employees. The Employment safeguard plan (PSE) will affect 1,260 catering sites operated by its subsidiaries Elior Entreprises and Arpège, which represents the high-end segment. As far as possible, the catering group will 'offer redeployment to the employees concerned' to other businesses located in France. More than 1,000 positions will potentially be available in the coming year', said the managing director of the corporate business within Elior France. Elior's corporate catering branch has seen its business shrink by 45% compared with last year due to the health crisis.
