Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
International producer of ropeways, cable cars and ski lifts, Doppelmayr, announced that it will cut 190 jobs worldwide, including 95 positions in Wolfurt, Austria. The job cuts are to be carried out as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic; at Doppelmayr, sales are expected to decline by a third for the current 2020/21 financial year. The conditions of the programme will be negotiated with employees’ representatives as the dismissals should be as socially responsible as possible.
Doppelmayr, headquartered in Wolfurt, Austria, is the world market leader in cable car construction. Currently, Doppelmayr employs around 3,4000 people worldwide, including almost 1,700 in Austria.
