Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Velux manufactures windows and accessories for windows. The company is dismissing 260 employees in Denmark. The dismissals are part of a planned restructuring and have no connection with the Covid-19 crisis. In the future Velux will transform its national structures into a regional structure with four European submarkets.
In Denmark 130 of the dismissals are mainly within sales and marketing departments. Furthermore, the company has announced the closure of its production facility in Skærbæk which entails the dismissal of another 130 employees. This brings the total dismissals to 260 in Denmark.
In addition, the company will dismiss around 330 in other countries offices around Europe.
Velux is also planning to build an innovation centre in Østbirk, Denmark, where it will hire 200 employees.
Velux has 27 production sites in 10 countries and sales companies in 40 countries. The company has 1231 employees in Denmark and 11500 globally.
