Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Linet, a Czech manufacturer of hospital and nursing beds, is to create up to 100 new jobs by the end of 2020. The company will have to hire more staff to cope with the increased interest in hospital beds in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic. At the request of the government, Linet will urgently produce 4,000 beds for Czech COVID-19 patients. According to the company's director, the supply to Czech hospitals will be given priority over some other deliveries.Since June 2020, Linet has introduced non-stop (24-hours a day) production for the first time in its history and the annual production of intensive care beds jumped to 1,200 per month.The manufacturer of hospital beds expects sales to increase to approximately CZK 10 billion (€367 million) in the 2020/2021 business year. In the previous business year, the company earned CZK 7.6 billion (€279 million).Linet, which currently employs 1,100 people, is a division of the multinational holding organisation Linet Group, and a major European manufacturer of medical beds.
