Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The textile company Miroglio Textile liquidated the controlled company Stamperia di Govone, following the decision of the shareholders' meeting not to recapitalise the company; 151 people were made redundant. Existing difficulties within the Italian textile sector were exacerbated by the COVID-19 crisis.
Trade unions considered the decision as wrong and organised workers' protests.
Between 22 and 34 workers could be reallocated to other jobs among the group's companies and 18 will be offered early retirement.
