Description
PerkinElmer, the US-based global diagnostics company has announced that in partnership with the UK Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) it is opening COVID-19 testing laboratories in Newport, Wales and Loughborough, Leicestershire, creating 200 and 400 laboratory jobs respectively.
The new labs will process COVID-19 tests as part of the UK government’s National Testing Programme. The Newport Lab has been established with Life Sciences Hub Wales, while the Loughborough site is set up with Charnwood Campus, that is part of the Loughborough and Leicester Enterprise Zone, set up by local universities and councils.
The Managing Director for PerkinElmer UK and Ireland said the company brings 'decades of experience' in screening and genomics programmes to the Lighthouse Lab network.
Led by the Department for Health and Social Care, a series of public-private partnerships has established seven Lighthouse Labs across the country: in Milton Keynes, Alderley Park and Cambridge in England; Glasgow in Scotland; Newport in Wales and Antrim in Northern Ireland.
