Description
Grensemat, one of the biggest grocery store chains located near the border with Norway, is beginning negotiations for job cuts. The planned reduction of staff will affect 200 blue-collar employees working in three different stores. All three stores are located in the Bohuslän region, western Sweden.
The job cuts are a direct consequence of the pandemic. Since Norwegian costumers need to place themselves in quarantine after visiting Sweden, the number of customers has drastically declined.
This is the second reduction of staff in less than a month. In the beginning of September 2020, 96 employees lost their jobs as a result of the pandemic.
The managing director of Grensemat declared in a statement that ‘this is a painful decision to go through with, and it is hard for everyone involved’.
Grensemat owns three stores located near the Norwegian border which are located in Svinesund and Nordby.
