Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
AO, the British online-only electrical and technology group has announced that it is creating 650 new jobs in a number of locations across England (Manchester, Bolton, Telford, Thatcham and Crewe) as well as working from home roles in all areas of the business. The recruitment drive has already started.
The chief executive said that the company had benefitted from customers shifting towards online shopping in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis and that AO had experienced a 'five years’ change in five weeks'.
AO, formerly known as Appliances Online was founded in 2000. It operates in the UK and Germany, selling household and other electrical appliances. The company has sponsored a recent series of the British television show, Britain's Got Talent.
