Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Cimos, an international supplier of auto parts with five plants in Slovenia and six in Croatia, announced a collective dismissal of 200 workers in Slovenia. About 150 workers will lose their jobs due to the closure of the factory in Maribor and 50 more in Senožeče. Cimos, owned by the Italian group Palladio Holding since May 2017, is the most affected Slovenian automotive subcontractor by the COVID-19 pandemic. The management said that the decrease in sales revenue is the reason behind the restructuring. The company started negotiations with trade unions offering severance payments to dismissed workers, assistance in finding new employment and reemployment of some workers in Croatian plants.
Cimos now employs 2,600 workers altogether; 992 in Slovenia, among which 50 agency workers.
