Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Based in the southern city of Bascharage, the US company Delphi Technologies that produces automotive parts, announced at the end of October 2019 that it would relocate part of its production to France by 2021. Only a single production unit "E&E" (Electronics and Electrification) will remain based at the Luxembourg site. During the course of negotiations between the management of Delphi and the representative trade union OGBL, it was decided to reduce the number of lost jobs at Delphi to 243.
After a first job maintainence plan (plan de maintien dans l'emploi) was signed in December 2019, including measures such as early retirement and training schemes, a social plan (plan social) was signed between the management and OGBL on the 5th of February 2020 with the objective to avoid further job losses at Delphi.
