Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The US-owned online retailer Amazon announced that it will create 500 additional positions at its new distribution centre in Łódź, Poland, by the end of 2020. The decision means that in total 600 employees are expected to be hired at the Łódź branch (a plan of the creation of 100 jobs was announced by Amazon in May 2020). The company declared that the new 40,000-square-metre centre will be expanded by another 33,000 square metres.
Amazon, the world’s largest e-commerce company, currently has over 40 logistics centres in 8 countries and employs around 798,000 employees worldwide. Amazon has been operating in Poland since 2014 and employs over 16,000 people in nine distribution centres across the country.
