Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
As announced on 30 July 2020, the German automotive supplier and filtration specialist Mann+Hummel will be seizing production at its site in Ludwigsburg which will result in the loss of 400 jobs due to internal restructuring. According to management, the decision is inevitable and aims to secure the company’s future. Mann+Hummel will continue to operate its research and development department as well as its technology centre in Ludwigsburg. Management will work closely with the works council to reach an agreement for a social plan. There is no detailed information when the production facility will close or when the redundancies will be carried out.
Mann+Hummel has 22,000 employees worldwide.
