Description
Luton Borough Council, the local authority responsible for the area where London Luton Airport is located, has announced plans to cut up to 428 jobs as part of a restructuring programme which aims to save £22 million (€ 24 as at 4 August, 2020).
A representative of the council said the decision was prompted by the 'catastrophic' effect the Covid-19 pandemic had had on the organisation’s finances, including a loss of income from Luton Airport.
Luton Borough Concil employs 3,000 people. As part of the cost saving drive, services such as school improvement, adult social care and road maintenance are likely to be affected.
