Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Gate Gourmet Denmark plans to lay off 400 employees due to low business activity caused by the coronavirus. Gate gourmet primarily handles catering for air lines at the Copenhagen airport. Most of the affected workers are members of the trade union 3F. Currently, the company employs 800 workers, whereas around 600 employees are members of the union 3F, of these 400 will be made redundant. Through dialogue with 3F shop stewards the company was able to save 30 jobs and has established offers for further education for the dismissed employees.
Gate Gourmet still receives salary compensation from the state and hopes that it will not be necessary to dismiss more employees.
