Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The automotive components manufacturer Nobel Plastiques, part of Orhan Holding, has announced the closure of its factory in Sant Joan Despí (Barcelona), affecting 200 workers, in this case permanent and temporary workers. The company experiences economic difficulties and plans to relocate the production to one of the Orhan Holding group's plants in Europe or Morocco. In the past months, the manufacturer has implemented a temporary layoff plan in the factory due to the COVID-19 crisis.
The CCOO union has rejected the closure of the plant and has urged the management of the Orhan Holding group to negotiate alternative solutions to guarantee the business activity and employment at the plant.
