Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Forterra, the British brick and concrete block maker has announced restructuring plans which will lead to 225 redundancies at its concrete products facilities, particularly affecting workers at its site in Swadlincote, Derbyshire, England.
A statement by the company said that the job cuts are made in anticipation of the long term impact of the coronavirus crisis on the UK construction sector. Britain’s largest brick maker, Ibstock Brick has also announced job cuts.
Forterra is the UK’s second largest brick manufacturer, with nine brick factories. The company is currently developing Europe’s biggest brick factory in Desford, west Leicestershire, which is expected to open in 2022.
