Churchill China, the British pottery manufacturer has announced plans to cut jobs due to the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic. The company has not confirmed the number of redundancies, however, the GMB trade union said that 250 staff are affected by the cuts and other sources stated that letters were sent to 500 employees last week.
A statement by the company said that the COVID-19 pandemic had a 'major impact' on the hospitality sector and the cuts were necessary to ensure the longer term sustainability of the business.
A representative of the GMB trade union said that the union will do everything to support its members and minimise the number of job losses.
