Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Food producer Ferrero announced its intention to expand business activities in its plant of Balvano (Potenza) with a planned increase in the workforce of 150 workers. The expansion is foreseen in order to respond to the increasing demand of Nutella biscuits.
In order to enlarge production facilities the companies submitted an authorisation request to the Regional administration, which ensured it will act in rapid times.
The plant was installed after the earthquake which affected the Region Basilicata in 1980. Currently, the plant employs 315 workers.
Update, 02/10/2020: Ferrero announced it will aim at doubling production of Nutella biscuits at the Balvano plant, from16,0000 33,000 tons per year. In order to do so, the company plans to invest another €80 millions. The investment will have an impact also on the number of people employed at the site: when fully operational, the company foresees that between 200 and 250 people will work on the production lines dedicated to Nutella biscuits, a significant increase compared to the 150 hires made by the Group about a year ago, when starting the new production.
