Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
According to regional broadcaster rbb24, airline Easyjet is to cut 738 jobs at the two airports in Berlin (Tegel and Schönefeld). This is around half the staff working for Easyjet at these airports. Affected are pilots and cabin crew alike as the airline will reduce its fleet from 34 to 18 aeroplanes. The company stated it the two bases in Berlin were not profitable and the COVID-19 pandemic had further worsened the financial situation. EasyJet has reportedly initiated talks with employee representatives.
The United Services Union ver.di stated to be surprised by this step and announced to fight for every job threatened by these redundancy plans.
