Description

As announced on 26 May 2020, the German automotive supplier Eberspächer will cease production of car heating equipment at its plant in Esslingen which will result in the loss of 300 jobs. The family-owned company specializes in exhaust technology, vehicle electronics and air conditioning systems for cars. According to the company, production will be reduced step by step at the Esslingen plant until 2022 and relocated to Poland. The relocation process will start in autumn 2020. IG Metall announced to work together with the works council in order to keep as many jobs as possible in Esslingen. The company has increased profits and revenue in recent years but sales and earnings have slumped this year as a result of the COVID-crisis.

After the reduction, only 1,000 employees will remain at the Esslingen plant. Eberspächer has 10,000 employees worldwide in 80 locations.
