Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The supermarket chain Lidl Italia announced an expansion plan called 'Lidl for Italy' which foresees 2,000 new hirings and the opening of 50 new sales points by the end of 2020.
The 'Lidl for Italy' plan is considered by the management as a contribution to the country's recovery after the phase of lockdown which accompanied the COVID-19 pandemic. The plan is based on three main pillars: real estate and logistics investments, the creation of new jobs, and the valorisation of the Italian agricultural production.
Today Lidl's staff in Italy amounts to around 16,500 workers employed in 660 sales points and 10 logistics platforms. Lidl operates in 29 countries around the world, and counts 10,800 stores and approximately 287,000 employees.
